Part of the ongoing fourth annual Volcano Awareness Month observance, the program will be presented in room 100 of the University Classroom Building at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, 200 W. Kawili St., in Hilo. Admission is free.
Kanahele, author of the award-winning “Ka Honua Ola,” will provide a Hawaiian perspective on volcanism — the “fire” family and its function.

This month also marks the 30th anniversary of the start of Kilauea’s current East Rift Zone eruption, which began on Jan. 3, 1983.
